You read it here first...well, not really because I posted on dA before blogger but ANYWAYS!

My Spaceman model is indeed complete, fully modelled, rigged and textured! LOOKS AT IT! LOOK:

The model and rig are nothing special at all but for me this is a MILESTONE! So tomorrow I'm moving on to storyboards, animation and maybe some set modelling depending on what I decide to have him do.

Time to run away to do some website designing! TOODLEPIP!

Spaceman Update

I thought I'd take a break so here I be, updating my blog thing. I've been working on my Spaceman model all day. I've finished modelling him (completely now, I hope). I totally remodelled his helmet and added a head with face mask and eyes inside.

Here's how he looks so far:

I'm rigging him at the moment, which is lots of fun. He's about half done, then I have to paint the weights on him but it shouldn't take all that long to complete all of that. If I work hard I'll get a lot done tonight.

Just to share my pain, here's what rigging a character looks like in Maya:

And that's using a really low poly model. Oh's not that bad really. :P Now it's time to feast then get back to work! FARE WELLS!

Just a quick update so that I don't get into the habbit of not posting anything on here, like I did for months.

I'm busy busy busy trying to get all of my work done before Christmas.

The Spaceman is getting rigged and animated. I'm working on a stylized render of the National Media Museum, creating an animation completely from MEL script (Oh God) and messing about with a live action film that I directed for a module.

So far things are looking good for all this work and it looks like I'll be able to get them all done quite soon actually. So that makes me happy because it means I can run off to be with my beautiful girlfriend sooner! :D Then CHRISTMAS!!!!

I'm running away now, must works MORE!

I thought I'd add a pointless entry just for the sake of it.

At this very moment I haven't slept in exactly 30 hours and 40 minutes.

This morning I was showering at 7:30 and was around and about directing a short film for uni at 8am untill around 12pm. After being awake for 15 hours this was quite painful and confusing to do but we all pulled through and got there in the end.

Sadly this meant that I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tired to even think about trying to do anything animation-wise. I did try but I kept falling asleep at the computer, so that didn't work out too well.

Over the weekend I'm going to be having waaaaaaaaaaay too much fun with my girlfriend back in Wales to think about uni stuff but I'll probably try to sort out some rough storyboards out at some point. Or at least some brain storms.

Now I'm off to relax a bit more, try to stay awake for an hour or two longer and then finally collapse and pass out in bed.

Oooh, but before I go, here's something to look at. This is a quick animation I made the other day using a rig I found:

I was just messing about with the rig and felt like doing a quick little animation. It's nothing special at all.

Forget the last post!!!

Ok. Take NO notice of the post before this. I was muchly confused but now I'm not and it's all very good and happy.

So, basically I went away and thought "A blob character? After all that learning and modelling...HELLS NO!" So I stuck in there, (kind of) finished it and now all that's left is to rig and animate it.

Here he is, the (very close to being) finished Spaceman:

The pack and the pipe might still get added depending on what I'm going to animate him doing. Tis all going well so far, let's hope it stays this way! :P

Expect the animation to be online before, on or around the 11th of December!

Things a changin'

I'm probably going to completely change my model and animation idea. So that means no more Spaceman, sadly. Maybe one day though, who be knowing? That could be my final major project unless a better idea comes along.

Basically the model I was working on was going to be far too complicated and the animation was too. I was going a bit too overboard with my ideas for what the marking scheme actually was. It's probably going to end up being quite a generic looking blob like guy like this:

Only the above model was based on a picture given to me so my model will look quite a bit different but will still be "blob" like.

I haven't thought about what he'll be doing yet so I'll have to get thinking soon. I'm already modelling the guy so things should start happening soon!

Spaceman Model Progress


As I mentioned in my last post I'll be updating on the "Spaceman" project. Here's the latest update. The 3D model so far, it's a long way from completion but it's a start. Everything's going well so far but I know that the helmet is going to be a bitch with the transparent visor and the face underneath.

Reworked storyboards should also be coming soon. I drew thumbnail sized storyboards on the train back from visiting my lady, so they need to be redrawn traditionaly or digitaly so that I can hand them in as part of the project.

Work work work

Righto, so I'm doing muchly uni work at the moment. I have four modules worth of work to get finished by Christmas so that I can spend the holiday with my beautiful girlfriend and not have to worry about getting anything done.

I'm working on:

  • A character model and animation (I'll post information about this soon, look at the last post, the animation is going to be based around that spaceman character).
  • Dubbing animation - I've actually finished this, all I have to do is the write up. Easy, check it out if you want to -
  • A three minute drama - this is group work and it should turn out to be pretty cool. I'm directing it.
  • The last is another group project, we have to render a scene in Maya. I'm in charge of lighting and rendering the night scene.

So yeah, all that to do before the 12th of December. The model's on its way, dubbing done, the drama is all scheduled to be shot and edited so that's easy and the render will get worked on after the spaceman model is finished.

Roll on beautiful Christmas! :D
