Back at uni

After spending a week in Wrexham with my beautiful lady friend I'm now back in Bradford and had my first lecture yesterday.

So far I'm really excited about two of my modules which is great. I get to do a facial animation/lip sync module and an individual project where I get to create my own project which will be a character animation short. I'm currently brainstorming and planning my individual project and have my facial animation audio already picked and the character is in the design stages.

Apart from those two modules I have a 'design for industry' module which I don't know all that much about but I'll find about that on friday.

Now time to get back to watching Lango tutorials, planning my IP and FA character etc.

Also, the lip sync animation I said was complete isn't actually finished yet :P There's a lot I want to clean up with that.

It's really finished now!

My lip sync animation really is complete now! Here it is:

Also, to take a break from animation and trying to fix rendering issues I drew a picture of a gorilla, he took just under two hours. Take a look:

Completed lip sync

Here it is, the finished animation and my first ever attempt at lip sync (which took about 6 days on and off). I'm quite proud of it and I'm even happy with the overall animation. Hopefully when it comes to my facial animation module at uni I'll be able to experiment more with mouth movements and details. Here's a playblast of the finished product. Due to some problems with Maya/mental ray I can't seem to render it out all shiney and nice but I'm working on fixing it. Untill then, this will have to do:

Now that I'm done with this I better get on and design a character for my next uni project and brain storm for my individual project.

To infinity...and BEYOND!

More smoothing

Here's some more smoothing! I changed the timing for some poses and cleaned a load of other stuff up.

Movies Smoothing out-enings

I started smoothing this guy out yesterday and this is where I am with it at the moment. It's far from finished but I thought I'd post this because I'm posting the same video on a forum to ask for crits. His left hand is bugging me a bit but I'm really liking the arcs on his right arm and hand.

Lip Sync - Refining and first stage lip sync

Today I finished the blocking, refining and started on the lip sync of the "Movies" animation. I'm really happy with how it's coming along especially since the tutorial I'm following doesn't tell you how to do things every step of the way. I had to figure a lot out myself and had nothing to follow for most of it. At first it was scary but it seems to be teaching me.

Lip Sync Blocking 2

Another small update. Here's a new playblast with some of the poses repositioned with a bit of different timing.

Ooh and on another note, with the help of my friend Krister I'm creating my own website based on this design.

Lip Sync Blocking

My lip sync animation is currently in it's blocking stages. This is a playblast of what I have so far even though the blocking isn't complete yet.

Working on some stuff

I'm working on completing as many tutorials as I can before I go back to university in late September. I want to learn as much as I can from the Digital Tutors and Gnomon packages as I can so that I can apply that knowledge to my final year piece of work.

The only two modules that I know about when I get back are:

  • Facial animation (YAY)
  • Individual project - This is a module where I can do aaaaaaanything I want and I get a small budget too! So that's going to be fun.

I'm not sure what else they'll have us doing but hopefully nothing that strays away from animation too much.

So before then I'm getting walk cycles down (working on the Gnomon tut for that now), some character animation mechanics and work flow and lip syncing.

New animation

I recently completed a new animation using a Digital Tutors tutorial. The tutorial was cartoon character animation and it was great. I learnt quite a bit from it and I'm sure the knowledge will come in handy for university work.

It took a few days on and off to do it since I was working most of the summer but here's the final render and the original playblast.
