I went to the cinema again on the opening night of an animated film to see that the place was completely empty as with Up. I was very disapointed with this film. In short - it promised so much and delivered very little.
It had a great concept, idea, story, art direction and the animation was spot on but it was all completely let down by presentation. This film could have been mind blowingly amazing and beautiful but it lacked so much structure that it felt like a made for TV film. Things just happened and jumped all over the place, characters died and nobody really seemed to care much. New characters came out of nowhere and weren't shown as being a big deal. It was really quite strange.
This film was fit for animation but due to the delivery it sadly failed.
So now I feel I need to sumarise:
The great animated films of the year:
- Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
The not so great animated films of the year:
- Monsters vs aliens (although I did enjoy this, it was pretty weak)
